The GUU is one of the most successful university debating unions in the world. Since founding the World Universities Debating Championships, and hosting the inaugural tournament in 1981, we have been World Champions on no less than five occasions. We also won the European Championships in 2017, and have been declared the British and Irish Champions a record 16 times. Our speakers and judges have also made it to the advanced knockout rounds of numerous international tournaments. In the last few years our competitive record has gone from strength to strength, and we have been champions of a number of debating tournaments in both the UK and abroad.
