Debates Chamber
Our Debates Chamber is one of the largest rooms within the Union. Renovated to its original stature, the space conveys a sense of tradition, elegance and grandeur. Hosting approximately 150 guests for a birthday party or evening reception and 200 guests theatre style for conferences. With an additional 220 seats available in the gallery, this large versatile space caters to a wide variety of events. The Debates Chamber is accompanied by our Reading Room bar which provides an additional space for guests to relax.
Dining Hall
The Dining Hall is one of our most popular event spaces. It can host 160 guests for dinner and 200 guests for an evening event, boasting a rich elegance and its own private bar within the space. Beautifully decorated with fairy lights this room can be used for a conference space, a fabulous evening entertainment room, or any event between.
Reading Room
The Reading Room offers a cosy, tranquil atmosphere which is perfect for relaxing with friends. It is often partnered with the Debates Chamber as a bar area, and is used for lunches, as a break out space for conference, or just for a get together with family or friends.
Drawing Room
The Drawing Room is one of our most recently renovated rooms. Originally the old smoke room, this room is now home to a coffee shop during the day and in the evening a bar or dining space. Seating up to 60 guests for dinner it is an ideal space for smaller weddings, private parties or intimate dinners.
Bridie Library
The Bridie Library provides a perfect setting for meetings, a breakout space for conferences, and is ideal for small dinners and receptions. Retaining its original features this room has a great deal of history and is the most peaceful space in the building.
Extension Spaces
Our extension was completed in 2015, hence these rooms are more modern but just as accommodating to your event.
HIVE
HIVE is our legendary main room and one of the best nightclub spaces in Glasgow, featuring its own bar, own entrance onto University avenue and an underground connection to our iconic main building. Kitted out with a custom Funktion one soundsystem, it has hosted performances for many iconic DJ’s, such as Faithless, Groove Armada & Tommy Zanetti. Out with clubbing, the space is available for hire and has been used for activities such as dance rehearsals, exercise classes and even bike repair workshops.
The WEll
The WELL is our secondary club venue. Shaped in a unique triangular wedge with a dramatic skylight, 2 levels, a custom bar and a DJ booth immersed in the crowd. Featuring the best of electronic, house & techno on our club nights, the space is often used for club and society socials and rehearsals, as well as private parties and events.
Base Bar
BASE Bar is themed in a rustic Jack Daniels style, with a bar and several booth BASE is perfect for medium size gatherings and meetings, with great popularity amongst our clubs and societies.
G12 Café
G12 is our coffee shop fronting onto University Avenue. Serving Starbucks coffees and products, it is a popular haunt with students and staff using the gym above or in the lecture halls across the street. Outside operating hours, G12 has been used as an intimate space for discussion groups, contributor meetings and smaller gatherings.
