Currently the biggest billiards hall in the West of Scotland, boasting 6 billiards tables, our own Billiards Hall is one of the original rooms that has been standing as it is since the Union opened in 1931.

Regardless whether you’re an expert billiards player looking for a challenge, a complete beginner looking for a new hobby in university, or would rather enjoy a cold drink in a quiet bar, the Billiards Hall on the top floor is the place to be.

The Snooker Club run a weekly tournament, every Wednesday at 7pm.

Keeping to old traditions, last year the Union restored and rebranded the glory of the once famous smoking room.

The Drawing Room now houses a Coffee Shop. Situated opposite the Dining Room in the Main Lobby, the Drawing Room has it all: from delicious cheese and carrot cakes, to tasty tongue tangling lattes. So come down, enjoy a strong coffee and see if you can recognise all the historical portraits hanging on the walls around you.

A convenience store in a very convenient location. Offering the cheapest stationary on campus, sweets, crisps, drunks, stamps, pen drives and a whole lot more, you can always find what you need in the GUU Shop.

Glasgow University Union has two Libraries, the Bridie and the Elliot. The Bridie is named after writer, James Bridie, a former Honorary Secretary of the Union. The Bridie is our fiction library and has recently been refurbished. It is ideal as a study space and can also be hired out for functions. The Elliot is our non-fiction library and is named after former President of the Union Walter Elliot. It is a silent library and is therefore perfect for students looking to have peace and quiet for their studies away from the hustle and bustle of the main University Library.

If you have any questions about the Libraries please email

Take advantage of free wi-fi throughout the entire building.

Elliot library available for study whenver Union is open! Monday-Friday 8am-Late, Saturday and Sunday 12pm-Late
