Debates Committee

Do you enjoy reading about current affairs and politics? Do you have a strong opinion on certain issues? Do you want to stand up and have your views listened to and debated?

Glasgow University Union is home to some of the country's greatest politicians: John Smith, Donald Dewar, Sir Menzies Campbell, Charles Kennedy and Liam Fox have all passed through our doors and into our Debates Chamber.

The Union has won the World Universities Debating Championships a record 5 times and the British Championship a record 18 times. If you take part in GUU Debates, the Union will fund your ambition and will send you not only around Scotland but around the World.

Games Committee

Can you imagine watching someone drink three and a half pints in nine seconds? Can you fathom the prospect of someone eating lamb's brains? No? Well this is just a taste of the tomfoolery that Games in the Union are all about.

Whether it's our weekly Beer Bar Quiz or the epic MONTH OF GAMES in February, our Games Committee ensure that your extracurricular activites can only be described as wild.

So don't stand on the side-lines, make sure you get involved for a cracking time and for a chance to win not only awesome prizes but the glory of having your victory commemorated in gold leaf in the Beer Bar.

MONDAYS - BEER BAR QUIZ (8pm)       WEDNESDAYS - SNOOKER COMPETITION (7pm)

Libraries Committee

The Libraries Committee is responsible for maintaining the Union's two libraries; the Bridie and the Elliot. Stocked up with essential textbooks from most courses, the libraries are a great alternative for some quality revision, especially with the free tea and coffee during exam time. Additonally, the Libraries Committee write, edit and publish the Union's official magazine and are always looking for new contributors so any budding writers, artists, or photographers should get involved by emailing libraries@guu.co.uk

Entertainments Committee

On Friday nights, we run a Live Open Mic night in The Well, where everyone and anyone can take part. On Thursday we run our big club night. As you can see by the building site next to the Union, we're in the process of having a brand new nightclub built, so in the mean time, we've taken over the old building to continue the usual Thursday night shenanigans and have a lot of great events planned for the next year so stay tuned.
