Speaker Training - Tuesday 6pm

It is a well-known fact that public speaking is a desirable skill. Junior and Senior Speaker Training is run by the Debates Committee, and involves informal debates on various issues. You can take part just to improve your skills, or to take debating more seriously. If you are successful, there are chances to partake in the European and World Debating Championships and IVs all over Britain. High-level debates, coupled with more casual rounds of ‘Just-A-Minute’ make debating not just a valuable life skill, but a lot of fun too!

Snooker - Wednesday 7pm

GUU’s Billiard Hall offers the cheapest snooker in the West End, and is open from 12pm -10pm throughout term time, along with so many of our other Services! A ladder competition is run on a Wednesday night – just turn up with your matriculation card at 7pm and put your name down!

Wednesday also plays host to our weekly poker competition, held in the Bridie Library at 7pm. With a £5 buy-in and a maximum pot of £250, and games often lasting the whole evening… GET YOUR GAME FACE ON!!

Open Mic - Friday 9pm

Whether al fresco when the weather is nice, to its resident home in the Reading Room on a Friday night, Open Mic allows for a chilled atmosphere, allowing all budding musicians, singers, comedians and other talented individuals to take to the stage and strut their stuff. However, if you aren’t one of these lucky talented individuals, it is just as enjoyable to relax in the booths and chat with friends, with some of the best background entertainment in the West End of Glasgow.

10Hr Hive - Keep an eye out to see these advertised online and around the Union!

If Thursday night Hive isn’t enough, GUU also offer three Ten-hour-long Hive nights for various occasions throughout the year. With themes allowing fancy dress, and tunes blasting out until 6am, these events are the talk of campus.

And just incase your memory needs jogged, photos taken throughout the night will appear in the Photo Gallery soon afterwards!
