Meeting new people is always scary, especially if you’ve moved away from home and are moving in with people you don’t know. You’ll meet a ridiculous number of new faces, some of whom you’ll possibly never see again, yet often the people you do get to know in Freshers’ Week are the people with whom you’ll remain friends throughout your University career!
Deemed to be one of the best weeks of your life, here at GUU we aim to ensure just this and make your Freshers’ Week an experience that you will never forget.

Freshers’ Helpers are on hand all day and all night to assist you in any way, shape or form with any problems you may be having. They have all been especially selected to ensure the height of friendliness so don’t be scared to ask as they will be delighted to help you! They will be seen around halls, campus and at the Union throughout the week to make sure you’re having the best time possible!

Every day of Freshers’ Week is completely jam-packed with entertainment and activities that will leave you drawing for breath.
The GUU’s four Committees, Board of Management and Freshers’ Helpers all join forces throughout the week to provide you with an epic array of amusements including: Themed Nights, Comedy, Live Music, DJs, Open Mic, Quizzes, Games, Debates, Freebies and so much more!
Past acts performing at Freshers’ Week have included: Pendulum, Two Door Cinema Club, The Futureheads, Ministry of Sound, Lee Nelson, Simon Bird (aka Will from The Inbetweeners) to name but a few!
Keep your eyes peeled for the programme of Freshers’ Week 2011 here at GUU and get your Freshers’ passes at the ready for banter, mayhem and copious amounts of fun!

Freshers’ Week is undoubtedly one of the best weeks of a student’s University career. However, in January GUU provide you with Re-Freshers’ Week so you can re-run the fun, this time without the stress of having to make new friends and bond with your flatmates. A week long event, Re-Freshers’ supplies you with events such as ‘The Big Fat Quiz of the Year’, ‘Re-Freshers’ Debate’ and club nights to help you overcome those January blues and forget about any University work that has already started to pile up.
